While I appreciate the novel approach to help viewers "wrap their head around" the size of this spill, I struggle with the display of enthusiasm during the presentation of this to viewers. This is such a sick and destructive process and I cringe everytime I see it. There's nothing fun or exciting about it.
While I agree with the previous comment on how horrible this oil spill is, my excitement wasn't directed toward the oil spill but the interesting way in which people can view how massive this is through google maps. Hopefully by showing viewers how massive a disaster this is with new technology (google maps) people will better understand it.
The use of this technology is actually very exciting. Most people increase their comprehension through the use of visual information. In simple terms - people understand what they can see. If the use of this technology encourages people to become more aware of the earth and it's natural resources and in turn take action to cherish and conserve the earth - Then I too am very excited at the prospect and hope of change.
This "spill" is sickening enough and now to see how much it would impact our own world were we under it....Hopefully tools and technology like this get people to do more than just "talk" about it! Talk less, do more!
